In honor of Winter
And dedicated to my Mother for her laughter and lullabies, and to my Father who wandered the woods and wondered
The Winter World
Winter flowers, Meadow Sweet, Asters dry and cold But now's the perfect time to see the structure of their souls The wonders of the winter world Skeletons alive All are welcomed back to soil No one really dies Ghost Pipe once was dressed so fine in shades of white and pink In cocoa browns now she still shines and underground she sings The wonders of the winter world Skeletons alive All are welcomed back to soil No one really dies Goldenrod, Queen Anne's Lace, Rhodora for a bouquet I kneel in snow and place them down with ashes as a grave The wonders of the winter world Skeletons alive All are welcomed back to soil No one really dies All are welcomed back No one really dies
Yes, you may recognize the melody. The original melody is from the song Aura Lee written in 1861. Almost a hundred years later, in 1956, the lyrics of the song were rewritten as Love Me Tender by Ken Darby, which became a huge hit for Elvis Presley.
